The airship as a low-carbon replacement for freighter jets
The Daily Climate provides an overview of recent interest in airships for transporting goods, citing Lockheed Martin's prototype as a candidate for commercialization in the near future.
A German airship company called CargoLifter AG had its IPO in May 2000 to much fanfare, but went insolvent two years later.
The 360 m long, 220 m wide and 106 m high freestanding steel-dome (in "barrel-bowl" construction) manufacturing hall was converted into the amusement park Tropical Islands. It's the world's largest indoor rainforest (area of six football fields).
